One of the most persuasive words that you can use as an entrepreneur is the word “because.”
Yes, you should use it more often BECAUSE it’s effective. 🙂
According to Cialdini, on his book “The Science of Persuasion,” the word “because” triggers an automatic compliance response because it’s normally used to justify a request.
It was found that when the request “Excuse me, I have five pages. May I use the Xerox machine?” was used; it was successful for 60% of the time.
But when people requested and said: “Excuse me, I have 5 pages, may I use the Xerox Machine because I am in a rush?”, the request becomes more persuasive and compliance rose to 94%!
So how can you apply this for your business?
If you sell clothes, instead of just telling customers to buy the clothes, they would be more convinced when you tell them a reason like “because they look good with the dress.”
I also do the same when I ask my employees to do something.
Instead of just telling them to finish their task today, I add a reason WHY they need to do it.
It can be “because the customer is waiting for it” or can be as simple as “so that tomorrow we can focus on other things.”
It doesn’t matter what the reason it. As long as you explain why!
So don’t forget to use the word “because” in all your requests, BECAUSE it will make you more persuasive.
